The 9/12 Project
On Saturday, September 12th, it was estimated that anywhere from 1.5 million to 3 million people descended on our nation’s capital to protest higher taxes and bigger government. This movement continues to get stronger daily as more and more people are awakening to the reality of our hard earned money going to a growing government which does not seem to have the will to curb spending.
As someone who attended this event, there was one sign that really stood out in my mind among many creative ones. It was, “we are not your ATM!” Obviously, this was a reference to an out of control government and the spending going on throughout our nation.
The federal government is not the only one that is out of control. Pennsylvania was without a budget for almost 80 days and, at this posting, appears on the verge of finally getting this settled. Many other states were running late this year as well.
Locally, many municipalities have not brought property taxes down to reflect the drop in value due to the sub-prime issue. What this means is, if your property was worth $200,000 and it dropped to $175,000, you should see a reduction in your property taxes. Don’t hold your breath waiting for your assessor to issue you an abatement (refund).
